Funnybones

The Kindergarteners are studying about the human body. I pulled out some nonfiction books that show details of both human and animal skeletons to show them. It was not hard to segue into Funnybones by Janet and Allen Ahlberg. In this story, a couple of skeletons live in a dark, dark basement and set out to find someone to frighten. In the process, their poor dog skeleton runs into a tree and is reduced to a pile of bones. Their efforts to restore him are quite amusing and ultimately successful. The skeletons go on to scare each other, then return home to their dark, dark basement…

Here are some of the children’s skeleton drawings:

A Sick Day for Amos McGee and The Wee Little Woman

This image has nothing to do with the books I read to the Nursery and Early Ages classes today! Actually, I took a moment to read a very old book that had been returned by the Nursery – Wait Till the Moon Is Full by Margaret Wise Brown, illustrated by Garth Williams (published in 1948.) Lovely, quiet story and lovely, quiet illustrations….
