Dot and Jabber and the Great Acorn Mystery

Acorn tops, pine cones, and leaves carpet the ground outside the library, which makes it very easy to find inspiration in natural materials! Today, the PreK read Dot and Jabber – The Great Acorn Mystery. In the story, two mice try to puzzle out how a small oak tree is growing so far from a source of acorns. There is a bit of fact mixed in with the little fellows’ investigation. The PreK children talked about what a mystery is and they knew a lot about how seeds move from one place to another.

I showed them some mysterious acorns I had found in Brookdale Park this weekend.

We then made pine cone mice. Everyone made one to take home, and several children made an extra mouse to place outside. We hope that other children will find them and wonder where they might have come from. Another mystery!
