Leo Lionni wrote many classics, like Swimmy, Frederick, and It’s Mine!. Letters live on the leaves in The Alphabet Tree. When a storm blows them into a huddle, they are advised to organize – first into words, then into sentences.
Their final sentence is a message of peace. When I asked the PreK who should be brought this message, Owen answered “President Obama!” In fact, Lionni had the same idea and the last page of the book says exactly that, “to the President.”
We took out the iPads after the story and, in groups of two, played a simple word construction game.
