Shark School

By Davy Ocean

Harry Hammer is not one of the cool sharks. He’s a boring goofy-looking hammerhead, and he would do anything to be scary. When he goes on a school trip at a scary shipwreck he does something he’s not supposed to do and pays the price.

This book is great and gives you a good amount of suspense.

Someone who is young and enjoys ocean stories and goofy characters would love this book!

I love this book but it is a little dark and gory. It is written beautifully.

Today in the Library

The Second Graders finished Catwings and started making their own cats with wings from the materials of their own choosing!

The Third Graders did another color experiment. We made sunprints using acrylic paints and sunlight!

I didn’t manage to snap a picture yet, but the First Graders sang the book The Fox Went Out on a Chilly Night and read The Artist Who Painted a Blue Horse by Eric Carle. Of course, I put out blue paint for the children to use for creating their own pictures…

Maker Space Goals….

Our beloved local craft shop has closed… but their spirit lives on in this new library shelving that I was able to repurpose from the shop. The plan that Nancy, the science teacher, and I are hatching is to make these shelves the center of a “maker space,” where we store materials and tools that are accessible to the children for working on their own designs and meeting challenges that we set up for them. Looking forward to attending a 3-day conference about making in June, where perhaps, I will learn how to use the school’s 3-D printer and other more techy tools….

Tree of Birds

When looking for an Earth Day book for the PreK, I found this unusual story about a boy who tries to help an injured bird. He researches to find out what kind of bird it is and finds that it usually lives in a warm, southern climate. He keeps the green bird as a pet in his room, until a flock of the same sort of birds alights in the tree outside his window and starts following him around. He is conflicted about letting his pet go free to follow her flock to a warmer spot, and ultimately opens the window to let her go…. The twist at the end of the story is that the treeful of birds is actually waiting to fly IN to his room to join their friend. Happy ending!
