Today in the Library

The Second Graders finished Catwings and started making their own cats with wings from the materials of their own choosing!

The Third Graders did another color experiment. We made sunprints using acrylic paints and sunlight!

I didn’t manage to snap a picture yet, but the First Graders sang the book The Fox Went Out on a Chilly Night and read The Artist Who Painted a Blue Horse by Eric Carle. Of course, I put out blue paint for the children to use for creating their own pictures…

The Tree Lady

To acknowledge International Women’s Day, the Second Graders read The Tree Lady, the true story of a woman who helped to turn San Diego into the beautiful, lush city that it became in the early 1900s.

I put out collage materials for children to make their own tree pictures. I was pleasantly surprised to see how they enjoyed the process and made such beautiful products!

Lost and Found Cat

img_9736It has been difficult to complete the immigration project that I started with the Second Graders due to scheduling and vacations, but today we met again and I read a book that the head of school purchased for us. It is the true story of a family and the cat that they lose as they are fleeing their country – Iraq. Four months go by, but the family is ultimately reunited with their cat through the use of social media and a network of volunteers! Photographs at the end of the book help to reinforce the reality of the story.
